Basic Building Blocks - Know Your Customer

Published by alexander13 at 3:35 pm under marketing Edit This

Before you even begin your business you should have extensive research on your market, potential customers, how they find you (what channels they use), and what your competitors are doing to make sales, get customers.

This is where many people fail and I want to help you avoid this.

Today’s internet makes it so easy to do this required research right from the comfort of your home or office.

You can also use the resources of your local library.

What you want to do is ask…

  • “if I were looking for this where would I start?”
  • “what are the competitors in this market doing?”
  • “where can I get products/services to sell to this market at the best, most efficient cost (and delivery time/reliability)?

Once you have a list of some of your competitor’s sites you can go to www.quantcast.com to find data on them. Quantcast will tell you who the visitors are that come to the site. This is called demographic info which includes: age, gender, race, income level, other website preferences.

This is invaluable insight into who your customers are and how to get your share of them. And hopefully once you get going get more than your share…ultimately dominating your market.

I’ll see you tomorrow for Independence Day.
